The film centres on a former militant who is forced to go on the run after his identity is uncovered by a news reporter.
Marling could play the female lead in the film, with Shia LaBeouf and Redford playing the journalist and militant respectively, Variety reports.
She has also been looking at offers from Christopher McQuarrie for One Shot and Steven Soderbergh for Magic Mike, Vulture reports.
The actress, producer and writer made her name at Sundance with Another Earth and Sound of My Voice.
Another Earth saw the 26-year old taking on the role of a woman who spies a duplicate Earth while driving, causing her to hit a young family.
Redford chaired the first Sundance Film Festival in 1978, which aimed to give young independent filmmakers a showcase.
In March, he spoke of bringing the annual film gathering to London in spring next year.
