Lionsgate announced on Monday that a new version of the 1987 film will be made by its original choreographer Kenny Ortega.
Grey told the Wall Street Journal: "I'm so excited about this news and I think there's nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one.
"I can't wait to see what he's going to do with it."
She had also used Twitter to say that she thought Ortega "will do something special" with the remake.
High School Musical director Ortega - who also worked with Michael Jackson - has described the project as "like returning home". He left a planned remake of Footloose, reportedly due to objections about the budget and tone of the project.
