The Australian film starring Josh Lucas and Rachael Taylor, which opened in cinemas nationwide last week, is based in Pilbara, Western Australia and tells the story of a dog roaming the Outback to search for his long-lost owner.
Producer Nelson Woss told The ABC: "The filmmakers are thrilled that Australian audiences seem to be giving Red Dog a pat on the head and enjoying seeing the spotlight being put on your region in the Pilbara.
"It's a good result and we want as many people to see the film as possible and we hope that we can sustain the type of business we did in our first weekend."
Red Dog box office sales in its opening weekend totalled $1.8 million, making it the biggest opening weekend for an Aussie film this year.
