Patrick Swayze widow 'approves of Dirty Dancing remake'

Kenny Ortega has revealed that Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi has given her "support" to his upcoming remake of Dirty Dancing.

Ortega choreographed the famous dance scenes in the original movie starring Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The director explained that he has been given the approval of both Niemi and Grey ahead of production.

"Jennifer and I have been talking and she's been so supportive, as has Lisa Swayze," he told Us magazine. "I couldn't be more thankful for the outreach that has happened from the cast and crew members from the original movie."

Ortega also named So You Think You Can Dance star Melanie Moore as someone he would like to work with on the film in some capacity.

"I would elbow people out of my way to work with her," he added. "She is so versatile, so gifted".

Jennifer Grey recently said that she could think of "nobody better" to undertake the remake than Kenny Ortega.
