The Tron: Legacy actress recalled to Bang Showbiz the filming of a particularly perilous scene in which her character Ella Swenson is plucked from a moving horse by a spaceship.
"I had a bungee cord attached to a harness around my waist, which yanked me back and into the air," she explained.
"The danger was that I would get stuck in the stirrups and ripped in half, so that was definitely a worry."
Although the sequence may have been dangerous, Wilde added that being suspended high in the air made her appreciate the "beauty" of the film's desert location, as well as the "ambitious" nature of the project itself.
"It was actually lot of fun," she claimed. "It was amazing to be floating above the crew and have this perspective of them as these little ants and see all the canyons around us.
"It just made me realise how ambitious it was to lug all these giant machines and cameras out into the middle of nowhere to tell a story. It was just really beautiful."
Cowboys & Aliens, which is directed by Jon Favreau and also stars Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell and Harrison Ford, is currently on US release and reaches UK cinemas on August 17.
