Chevy Chase has revealed that he has penned a new Vacation movie.

The 67-year-old has starred in four Vacation movies, playing patriarch Clark Griswold in the series of comedy films that centre on holidays plagued by various mishaps and disasters.

The last instalment featuring Chase was released in 1997, but the actor recently said that he has an idea for a new film in the series.

"I've written an idea that would be basically like a 'Swiss Family Griswold'," Chase told Collider.

He explained: "There's a cruise, there's a fire on the ship, we think the whole ship's on fire and we jump - it's just a little fire - and we end up on an island where we meet Randy [Quaid, who played Cousin Eddie in the Vacation films], who's been left there from an old Survivor series."

Last year, New Line announced that it will remake the Vacation series with a screenplay from Horrible Bosses scribes Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

In February, Warner Bros unveiled plans to reboot another Chase series. The studio will bring back the investigative reporter IM Fletcher from Fletch in a forthcoming action-comedy film.
