Less Than Zero author Bret Easton Ellis, who has penned the film's screenplay, recently suggested that the Glee star was in line for a role in the project.
"Whatever my problems with Glee [are, they] have nothing to do with the incredibly talented cast itself," Ellis tweeted, referring to his negative comments about Glee back in April. "And no, the producers of the script I wrote, which Darren Criss might (or might not) star in, didn't make me write that tweet."
However, according to Entertainment Weekly, Criss is no longer attached to the film, which stars the likes of Hayden Panettiere, Nikki Reed and Lucy Hale.
However. Criss has recently landed a supporting role in Kristen Wiig's dark comedy Imogene.
The young actor will also take over from Daniel Radcliffe on the Broadway musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying for three weeks, starting in January 2012.
