Damon and Anna Paquin star in the film, which centres on a young woman who witnesses a road accident and gets caught up in the aftermath.
Oscar-nominated You Can Count on Me writer/director Kenneth Lonergan completed shooting on Margaret in 2005 but struggled to complete it in the post-production stages.
Producer Scott Rudin, Martin Scorsese's long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker and the late Sydney Pollack all tried at various stages to help Lonergan complete the ensemble film.
Kieran Culkin, who appears in Lonergan's You Can Count on Me and Margaret, last year told Digital Spy that he had seen the movie and called it "beautiful".
Margaret has now been confirmed for a limited US theatrical release on September 30 through Fox Searchlight Pictures.
