Gary Oldman has said that he plans to cast Colin Firth in his next movie.

The 53-year-old revealed that he will be helming an unknown remake sometime in the near future, saying that he hopes to cast his Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy co-star in his second directorial effort.

"I think I'm gonna do something with Colin Firth," Oldman told Esquire. "It was something I'd been thinking about for a while, I can't say what it is, but it's a remake, and when I worked with Colin [on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy] I thought: here's the guy to do it with."

The actor also talked about how he has never really come to terms with his celebrity status, admitting that he thinks his soap star sister Laila Morse - who plays Mo Harris in EastEnders - attracts more attention from the public.

Firth recently insisted that the film industry at large "underestimates" the level of intelligence of viewers, saying that he is optimistic that the spy thriller will attract a large audience.

In June, Oldman admitted that he is not a fan of 3D technology, insisting that the format was invented for films like Jackass.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy opens in UK cinemas on September 16 and December 9 in the US.
