The British filmmaker, whose latest movie will close next month's London Film Festival, told Digital Spy that Weisz's talent and personality has made her an in-demand star.
"She's just very, very gifted and she's a lovely person," Davies said. "She deserves it, she absolutely deserves it. I'm very pleased for her because it's nice when people who are good get what they deserve."
Davies described Deep Blue Sea's closing night slot as "a wonderful compliment".
"It's not so much daunting as I still can't believe it. On the might I'll need a schooner of Algerian sherry to calm me down," he commented.
The BFI London Film Festival will run from October 12 to October 27.
