Hugh Grant joins Tom Hanks, Halle Berry in 'Cloud Atlas'

Hugh Grant has become the latest actor to join the lineup for the David Mitchell novel adaptation Cloud Atlas.

The Bridget Jones actor joins the likes of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent and Jim Sturgess in the project, which is being written and co-directed by Run Lola Run's Tom Twyker and The Matrix's Andy and Lana Wachowski.

The movie's tagline describes the plot as "an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a saviour and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution".

The story will chart the story of one soul through several centuries, from the 19th century South Pacific to a post-apocalyptic future.

Shooting for the project is scheduled to begin later this month.

Hugh Grant recently revealed that he has yet to sign up for the third instalment in the Bridget Jones franchise.
