Denzel Washington to lead 'The Secret in Their Eyes' remake

Denzel Washington is in contention for the lead role in the remake of foreign film The Secret in Their Eyes.

The Academy Award-winning Argentinian movie centres on a retired lawyer who writes a novel to find closure over an unsolved murder case, which has unintended consequences. He also has to manage his unrequited love for his female boss.

Ricardo Darin starred in the original film, directed by Juan Jose Campanella.

Breach's Billy Ray will be directing from his script for the remake, following Warner Bros' procuring of the rights. Ray is keen on getting Washington to take the central role, Twitch reports.

Washington is currently committed to Back to the Future helmer Robert Zemeckis's Flight. He will be playing an alcoholic pilot who has to come to terms with his problem after nearly crashing a plane.

Sherlock Holmes actress Kelly Reilly will be co-starring in the film, which marks Zemeckis's return to live-action film after 2000's Castaway.
