The Warrior actor has been cast in the film as a special operative commanded to kill the leader of Al-Qaeda.
The script by Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal was reportedly re-written following the actual killing of Bin Laden earlier this year.
Asked if he had any concerns about the project, Edgerton told Digital Spy: "Absolutely. It is very sensitive.
"There was more concern about the fact that the project took a great shift. Obviously when Team Six took out Bin Laden, the whole project that was has now been adjusted."
He added: "I think that the major concern is that history needs time to settle. I think that's why a project that was going to be slated to shoot soon has been shunted back a little bit."
