The British actor, whose missionary Philip was last seen being pulled to the bottom of the ocean by mermaid Syrena (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) in Pirates 4, admitted that he is keeping his fingers crossed for a return in Disney's planned follow-up.
Claflin told Digital Spy: "All I can do is say I hope, and keep my fingers crossed, that I will be [asked back].
"I think the beautiful thing about my storyline is that it's left with an open ending. It can go any way. I could turn out to be a mermaid myself, but I could also get out the other side and live on land or I could die!
"They could go anywhere with it. I hope that if there is another one I'd be involved."
Claflin admitted that he struggled to speak when he first met Depp on-set, who was in-costume as his Pirates alter ego.

"The thing is, he's such a welcoming kind of guy that he never made me feel pressurised by his stardom. He's so down-to-earth that he always makes jokes about how he looks or what he's doing.
"It immediately broke the ice and the nervousness [went away]. There were a fair few pinch yourself moments and that was definitely one of the first."
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is out on Blu-ray and DVD now.
