Evans, who is reprising his role as Captain America opposite the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, admitted he was originally concerned about working on the project.
"Going into it you're like, who knows? I don't know how this is gonna go," Evans told The Huffington Post. "There's a lot of big actors, a lot of big egos, everyone has their own thing going.
"I can't say enough, it couldn't have gone better. I have high hopes. I hope it's awesome."
Evans also teased that fans may see a darker side to Captain America now he is adjusting to life in the modern world.
"He's a fish out of water. Everyone knows he's dead, and he's in a foreign time, and The Avengers, he gets to be a little darker, which is nice."
The Avengers is due to open in cinemas on May 4, 2012.
