The Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy actor explained that director Christopher Nolan has been so desperate to keep details of the project secret that scripts were sent out with pages missing, while other cast members were forbidden from reading the screenplay in private.
"Christopher doesn't want anyone to ruin it and I completely understand that," he told Contactmusic. "The newer people on the film go to his office to read the script.
"They sent mine out, but it had to be hand-delivered directly to me and nobody else. And the final few pages were missing. I went along and talked to Christopher and in person about the ending. Then I locked it away in my head."
Nestor Carbonell, who plays Gotham City mayor Anthony Garcia, admitted this week that he did not receive a script for The Dark Knight Rises.
Star Joseph Gordon-Levitt has also urged Batman fans to avoid spoilers, insisting that viewers "will have the best experience if [they] just trust" Nolan.
