The Captain America actor told The Huffington Post that director Joss Whedon has brought "substance" to the Marvel Studios film.
Evans said: "There's obviously action, you've got all these superheroes, there's gonna be a constant battle; I think every ten pages, there's going to be some sort of action. But you can have all the action in the world - if you don't have some substance, you got nothing.
"It's not easy trying to bring all those characters together and find a story, but the best thing about [Joss] is that Joss is a fan, Joss is a comic book guy. It feels so nice working with a guy that is, well, the people I am trying to please is Joss. Joss is one of those dudes."
Evans recently admitted that he had initial doubts about reprising his role as Steve Rogers for the team-up movie, but added that "it couldn't have gone better".
Avengers will see Evans star alongside Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. Tom Hiddleston will revisit his Thor role of Loki.
The Avengers opens in theatres on May 4, 2012.
