The actor will join a cast including Andrea Riseborough, Colin Ford, Michael Nyqvist and True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard, Variety reports.
Disconnect follows the intersecting lives of several characters who find themselves affected by failed communication over the internet and other mediums.
Murderball documentary maker Henry-Alex Rubin will be making the film his first narrative feature, after working second unit on Girl, Interrupted and Cop Land.
Bateman is also committed to another project which will be shot back-to-back with Disconnect. The Longest Week will reunite him with The Change-Up co-star Olivia Wilde.
Bateman recently told Digital Spy that the forthcoming Arrested Development film will be full of cameos.
