The director spoke out on Twitter about his forthcoming movie, in which he will reportedly reprise his role as Mookie from Do The Right Thing - which led to reports that the film would be a sequel to the 1989 picture.
"Red Hook Summer is not a Sequel to Do The Right Thing and it has nothing to do with Brooklyn Loves MJ," he wrote. "Subject Matter? New Spike Lee Joint YO."
The film will feature The Wire's Clarke Peters, Red Tails' Nate Parker, Turron Kofi Alleyne, Samantha Ivers, Limary Agosto, Heather Simms and Kalon Jackson, according to Blackfilm.
The Malcolm X director also used Twitter to announce the forthcoming film earlier in the month.
Lee was recently confirmed to also be helming the remake of 2003 Korean thriller Oldboy.
