The film, which was axed by Disney in August over budget concerns, is said to be back on track, Deadline reports.
Following the initial news of the axe, director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer joined forces in an attempt to save the film, allegedly offering to take salary cuts so as to reduce the movie's $250m (£152m) price tag.
Later, reports surfaced that Verbinski had been cut from the film, leading to speculation that The Lone Ranger could proceed without the Pirates of the Caribbean director.
However, the budget reworking has enabled Verbinski to remain on board, along with Bruckheimer and Depp. The film is now expected to cost around $215 million (£140m).
The website reports that an announcement will be made next week concerning the future of the project. Meanwhile, a January or February 2012 start date is being eyed.
The film will continue with its current cast, which includes Depp, Social Network star Armie Hammer and Ruth Wilson.
