50/50 is based on the true story of Rogen's friend Will Reiser, who survived a battle with cancer.
Rogen explained that he finds the movie meaningful because it deals with the subject of cancer in an extremely "honest" way.
"We really tried to be as honest as we could about it. Life is funny and sad, and even while Will was going through [cancer treatment], we still made jokes and had ridiculous conversations," Rogen told Parade.
Rogen also teased that he's not as sentimental as his 50/50 character, joking: "I cry during ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) commercials. Other than that, I'm pretty cold-hearted."
The actor has claimed that 50/50 is just as funny as his previous films.
50/50 opens on September 30 in the US and on January 6, 2012 in the UK.
