The director has reunited with Drive star Ryan Gosling to work on a new adaptation of William F. Nolan's 1967 novel.
"I've always been obsessed with the movie ever since I was young," Refn told Digital Spy.
"When it came about as an opportunity, I thought if I was going to make a studio movie, that would be it. "
He added: "I like the original but I think you can also steal too many things. I read the novel, which is terrific, and I felt - like Drive - that I just try to go back more to the source material."
The first movie adaptation of Logan's Run from 1976 was directed by Michael Anderson and starred Michael York, Richard Jordan and Jenny Agutter.
