Affleck's third directorial outing will reach cinemas in September 2012, at the same time as its expected appearance at next year's Toronto International Film Festival, Deadline confirms.
The film has been adapted from an article in Wired magazine about a group of CIA agents who pretend to be filming a sci-fi movie in order to rescue four hostages from Iran in 1979.
Affleck himself will star in Argo opposite the likes of Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, and Taylor Schilling.
Argo will now be released in cinemas on September 14, 2012.
