The British actress, who stars as Andromeda in Wrath of the Titans, admitted that she was taken aback by scale of the Hollywood blockbuster.
Pike told Digital Spy: "You'd have these immense sets and the CGI green screen elements, but a lot of it was built as well, which is much better for the imagination. We're in the Underworld and it was like walking into chaos.
"We'd have huge wind machines, rivers of fire, columns of fire being dropped 20 feet down, boulders being thrown at us made of polystyrene. We'd have to run through all this mess and it was like being in a maelstrom. It's exciting, it's a kind of crazy chaos."
PIke added that her co-star Sam Worthington (Perseus) relished the challenges presented by the big-scale production.
"Sam said to me on day one, 'This is why I love action movies, they're crazy.' And they are!" she said.
Wrath of the Titans, co-starring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy and Danny Huston, opens in cinemas in March next year.
Pike's new movie Johnny English Reborn bows in the UK this Friday.
