The actor - who appears alongside the Twilight and Water for Elephants star in the movie - told MTV News that audiences will not be disappointed by Pattinson's performance in the film as it offers an "edge" not present in his other roles.
"Robert is a very gracious, kind fella, and we had a great time [filming]. We had a really great time," Durand explained.
"He's got an edge to him in this film. He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of."
Cosmopolis, based on Don Delillo's novel of the same name, also stars Juliette Binoche, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton.
Cosmopolis is directed by David Cronenberg (Eastern Promises, A Dangerous Method) and will open in the US in 2012.
