The veteran director is to premiere A Dangerous Method at the New York Film Festival and has just wrapped Cosmopolis, starring Robert Pattinson.
He told Shock Till You Drop of Eastern Promises: "[A sequel is] possible. Steve Knight wrote it, and he's now writing a second draft, and [studio] Focus are interested, so we'll see."
Cronenberg also clarified rumours about a possible sequel to The Fly. He said: "It's not exactly a remake; it's sort of a sequel, kinda. I've written a script of that but I don't know if it's going to really happen. That has to do with Fox."
The director further denied that he is making an English-language version of Nacho Vigalondo's sci-fi drama Timecrimes.
"Sometimes on IMDb you see you're doing three movies you've never even heard of. They proposed it to me and I turned it down, and then suddenly it was on the 'net like I'm doing it!
"I think it was the director of the Spanish version that was responsible for saying I'm doing it, but I never was," he explained.
Cronenberg has also committed to adapting Jonathan Lethem's As She Climbed Across the Table.
