'The Help's Octavia Spencer joins Russell Brand in Diablo Cody's debut

Spencer takes on the role of a card sharp in Las Vegas, where the lead character travels after being involved in a near-fatal plane crash, Variety reports.
The film, reportedly titled The Lamb of God, sees Julianne Hough playing the survivor who loses her faith, but finds that she cannot escape it in Vegas.
Russell Brand is also joining the cast, as a bartender who befriends Hough's character in the city.
Brand and Dancing with the Stars winner Hough have previously appeared together in the adaptation of the stage musical Rock of Ages.
Before being cast in a breakthrough role in period drama The Help, Spencer starred in 2009's reboot Halloween II and the comedy Dinner for Schmucks. She was also Betty's father's stalker in the television series Ugly Betty.
