Hugh Jackman has called Eddie Murphy "the perfect choice" to host the 2012 Academy Awards.
The Real Steel star, who compered the 2009 Oscars ceremony, told Digital Spy that he was delighted that his X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner selected Murphy for the role.
"I think it's fantastic," Jackman said of Murphy's appointment. "I think most people thought that would never happen but it's ideal. My hat's off to Brett Ratner, who's the producer and obviously convinced him to do it."
He added: "[Eddie Murphy is] Hollywood royalty, a huge movie star and great, great comedian. It's the perfect choice."
Asked if he would like to host the Oscars again, Jackman replied: "I'd love to do it again, but if I don't I'm forever grateful for having that shot."
