Sources close to production on the 2000AD Comics adaptation told the Los Angeles Times that the editing process is now instead being run by writer-producer Alex Garland.
The sources claim that Garland is putting so much work into the film, alongside fellow producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, that he may seek a co-director credit on the project.
Dredd, a remake of the 1995 film Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone, will see Star Trek actor Karl Urban take on the lead role.
Dredd is currently scheduled for release on September 21, 2012.
