The project was first announced back in 2009, with Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson attached to the cast. However, no further progress has since been announced.
"I was thinking about that this morning," Jackman told MTV News. "I'm absolutely attached, it is one of the best scripts I've read in a long time.
"As you know, Hollywood has a hard time with Westerns; it's hard to get them made and this is a really beautiful, beautiful script."
Unbound Captives has been penned by screenwriter Madeleine Stowe, who will also serve as the film's director once production gets underway.
Jackman added: "I really hope that one gets made. I think that's a really important movie."
Both Pattinson and Weisz have previously said that they are still interested in starring in the film should it move forward.
Unbound Captives is set in the 1880s and follows a woman who seeks out the help of a frontiersman to help rescue her family from a tribe of Comanche warriors.
