A total of 12 crew members and actors were sent to hospital in Toronto as a result of the early morning incident with injuries ranging from bruising to a broken leg, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It did kind of catch us off-guard when we walked in," said police sergeant Andrew Gibson.
A rep for the Toronto Police told the website that a wheeled platform accidentally shifted while actors were moving from one side of the stage to the other. The platform subsequently collapsed, injuring the various individuals present.
"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying, 'Oh my God'," added Toronto emergency medical services commander David Ralph.
Resident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and Michelle Rodriguez. It is slated for a September 14, 2012 release.
In July, Jovovich admitted to suffering nightmares about zombies since joining the Resident Evil franchise.
Jovovich announced the title of the film back in May, revealing that there will be a huge surprise about the origin of her character Alice.
