Singleton, who directed the late rapper in 1993's Poetic Justice, is in talks to direct the biopic for Morgan Creek and Universal Pictures, reports New York Magazine.
Training Day director Antoine Fuqua was signed on to helm the biopic; however, after a nationwide talent search failed to find an actor to portray Shakur, Fuqua has now moved on from the project.
Oscar-nominated screenwriters Stephen J Rivele and Chris Wilkinson have written the screenplay, which has apparently been redrafted by Brian Tucker.
Singleton's film debut, Boyz n the Hood, earned him two Academy Awards nominations for 'Best Director' and 'Screenplay' in 1991, which made him the youngest person and the first African-American to be nominated for 'Best Director'.
His other directorial works include Higher Learning, Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers, and most recently Taylor Lautner's Abduction.
