Rush screenwriter Peter Morgan has said that casting Russell Crowe as Richard Burton in upcoming Formula 1 biopic Rush is an "inspired idea".
Crowe, who previously worked with Rush director Ron Howard on A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man, has been linked to the role of the Hollywood icon in the sports drama.
Morgan said: "It would be a day or two's work. It's a small part in it as Richard Burton and he would be perfect casting."
Rush centres on the rivalry between 1970s racers Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) and James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).
Supermodel Suzy Miller (Olivia Wilde) was married to Hunt in 1974, but filed for divorce when she became involved with Elizabeth Taylor's ex-husband Burton.
Morgan's latest drama 360 opened the BFI London Film Festival earlier this week.
