Gerard Butler to foil World War III in drama 'Hunter Killer'?

The movie centres on a maverick Russian general who kidnaps his country's president, threatening to start World War III.
Butler would play the submarine captain desperate to prove himself by foiling the general's plans, according to Variety.
Sam Worthington is reportedly in line for the role of the Navy SEAL unit commander who aids the inexperienced submarine captain.
Butler is currently attached to several projects including an adaptation of Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Machine Gun Preacher and the romantic comedy Playing the Field.
In September, the actor was shot twice in the head by a shell while filming Machine Gun Preacher.
