Terry Gilliam has said that he is in favour of the planned 3D re-release of his 1981 classic Time Bandits because it will give the movie "a second life".
Speaking to Digital Spy, Gilliam admitted that he isn't in favour of the 3D process because "it just raises the cost of a movie and anything that raises the cost of the movie probably limits the ideas you can play with".
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus director said of the potential 3D Time Bandits: "There's this attempt to do a 3D-ised version of Time Bandits, and I like that only because it gets the film out again and gives it a second life. That's the important thing, but I have no interest in 3D."
He added: "I'm beginning to think the audiences have realised, 'Why do we have to pay so much more money to see the same film?'"

Gilliam's new short film The Wholly Family - made in collaboration with Garofalo Pasta - is screening today (October 14) and October 17 as part of The School of Life shorts programme at the BFI London Film Festival.
