The Fast and the Furious star is in the running to take on the role in the fifth Die Hard film, reports Variety.
Walker, Ben Foster (X-Men: The Last Stand), Paul Dano (Where the Wild Things Are), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes) are all said to be meeting Bruce Willis next week to audition for the part.
At 38, Walker is the oldest of those in the running for the role.
The latest instalment in the franchise centres on McClane and his son's involvement in a prison escape.
Max Payne's John Moore is attached as director. The A-Team's Skip Woods is drafting a script for the film.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in Russia in January 2012.
