Jane Turner, who plays Kath in the series and movie, said that she wants the characters to be around "forever" and feels like making the film has immortalised the Australian pair for good.
She told the Herald Sun: "We felt like we never really said goodbye, so we thought it would be great to bring them to the big screen. Never say goodbye. We'll be here forever now - Star Wars, here we come. Prequels, sequels... Oh God, I don't know. It's so much fun that if we can keep segueing them into new realms, maybe we could do more."
However, co-star Gina Riley admitted that she wants to bid farewell to the pair.
"I think we can say goodbye," she said. "We really just wanted to do something big and say, 'That's it'. So hopefully this will be it... apart from the sequel and the prequel."
After two weeks of filming in Italy, the pair joined cast members Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn on set in Melbourne earlier this month.
Richard E Grant has also been spotted on set after being announced as the movie's special guest.
Producers have described the film as "a whirlwind trip overseas that becomes a tale of love, lust and a royal wedding".
