As the third instalment prepares for midnight preview screenings, Digital Spy takes a look at the early chatter for Paranormal Activity 3 to find some positive early buzz.
DionSekone: "HOLY S**T! #ParanormalActivity3 is f**king scary as f**k. More satanic elements in it. Seriously."
k3vin11: "#ParanormalActivity3 was awesome and way more scary than the first and second one!"
shanedrought86: "#paranormalactivity3 Not too shabby. The scares might be cheap, but they're still scares... which is more than most horrors can offer!"
MissCLeach: "#ParanormalActivity3 Was Good/Jumpy But Baffled Me At The End! #HateCrappyEndings"
Brandywine1984: "Man, such a creepy movie, can't stop thinking about it...by far, the best scary movie I've seen in a while. :)"
LoDoyley: "Oh ma lord, that film was intense! Definitely not for the faint-hearted #paranormalactivity3"
The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck says the film "hews to the formula in expertly crafted fashion, mustering up the requisite scares and then some".
Entertainment Weekly is also positive about the sequel, with critic Owen Gleiberman saying he watched the film "in a state of high anxiety".
Movieline was less positive, saying the cut screened at last month's Fantastic Fest is "too slow a burn, a little too obvious, and has an ending that takes a sharp detour into horror cliché".
Legendary critic Roger Ebert dished out a one-star rating in his review, writing: "Inexplicably, there are people who still haven't had enough of these movies. The first was a nifty novelty. Now the appeal has worn threadbare. Since they already know more or less what will happen and it's lame-brained, why do audiences continue to turn out for new Activities?"
Time's Richard Corliss praised the movie for favouring horror over gore: "The filmmakers throw in a few cheesy scares: mum in a monster mask, a baby sitter jumping in front of a camera. But the rest is pretty freaking cool."
