Universal Pictures is closing a deal with John Orloff for Bryan Singer's movie remake of Glen A Larson's original 1978 television series.
"I have wanted to write this movie since I was 12 years old, and built a Galactica model from scratch out of balsa wood, cardboard, old model parts and LEDs," Orloff told Deadline. "I love BSG, and I would pass on the job rather than frak it up."
Orloff's most recent project was the Roland Emmerich-directed Anonymous, which he scripted and executive produced.
He also wrote the screenplays for Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and Angelina Jolie's A Mighty Heart. He received an Emmy nomination for HBO's Band of Brothers miniseries.
Orloff is also attached to write Truckers for DreamWorks Animation.
Singer recently revealed that the cancellation of his Excalibur remake meant that he would now be focusing on Battlestar Galactica.
The show was most recently adapted by Ron Moore in the acclaimed television series that ran between 2004 and 2009.
