The Mad Men actor, who plays Phillipe, the rich father of Amanda Seyfried's character Sylvia in the futuristic thriller, claimed that the part was easy to relate to as he believes that all Americans are inherently privileged.
"It's pretty easy. I'm a white American," Kartheiser explained to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We're all kind of born with a silver spoon in our mouth. We're all much luckier than people born in Bolivia or West Africa."
Kartheiser also spoke out on his previous admission that he does not own a car and opts to take public transportation in an effort to live a "green" lifestyle.
"I think it's modest in comparison to the most extreme of people," he said. "I used to have no car and everybody thought that was some big modest thing, but, no - I spend a lot of money and I'm pretty lazy."
