Universal Pictures is considering filming Fast and Furious 6 and 7 back-to-back.

The studio is deciding whether to produce the sixth and seventh instalments of its hit franchise simultaneously with a single, connected storyline, reports Los Angeles Times.

Screenwriter Chris Morgan, who wrote the previous three films, is drafting ideas for the story. Director Justin Lin, who also worked on the last three movies, is expected to return for both sequels.

Jason Statham was recently rumoured to be starring in the two sequels, alongside Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson.

The current trend for shooting sequels back-to-back includes the Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit franchises.

Hasbro is currently considering whether to produce Transformers 4 & 5 simultaneously.
