Director Andrew Niccol's futuristic thriller In Time tells the story of a world where the ageing gene is switched off at age 25 and time is used as a form of currency.
Wilde explained that it was really fun to be able to play Timberlake's mother especially because she is actually three years younger than him.
She told Access Hollywood: "It's fun to experiment with playing characters that you would never normally be offered.
"It takes a visionary like Andrew Niccol to think of a concept so far out that I would get to play Justin's mum. I'm younger than Justin!"
Timberlake recently commented that In Time was the "most fun" movie he's ever worked on.
In Time is released in US cinemas on October 28 and in the UK on November 1.
