The Social Network actor explained that he had to "hobble" during a scene because of the injury, but managed to make it work.
"It felt like someone shot me in the leg," he told USA Today. "It looks like in the scene I'm hobbling because I'm pulling [a hostage], but it's because I'm on one leg.
"When they yelled 'cut' I actually fell down. But we got a great take out of it."
Timberlake added that his role in the action movie gave him the ability to fulfil many "boyhood fantasies".
"This action hero thing, I don't know if I'm buying it. This is not John Rambo. My character has his back against the wall, and he's street-smart. But there were a lot of boyhood fantasies here," he said.
Justin Timberlake received an award for his environmental work earlier this month.
