The Pride and Prejudice and Zombies movie adaptation has lost its third director.

Fright Night director Craig Gillespie has departed Lionsgate's film, reports Deadline.

Gillespie had taken the reins of the Jane Austen horror mash-up from Mike White, who had replaced originally-attached director David O Russell.

The film is based on Seth Grahame-Smith's bestselling book, which introduces minimal changes to Austen's Pride and Prejudice to transform it into a tale of zombie hordes and ninjas.

Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Blake Lively have all been connected to the lead role of Elizabeth Bennett, which remains uncast. Portman was also previously attached to produce.

Gillespie's departure is reported as amicable.

Russell has said that he struggled with the budget allocated to the movie when he was still on board.
