'Game of Thrones' George RR Martin's 'Wild Cards' for movie

Syfy Films will adapt George RR Martin's Wild Cards.

The Game of Thrones creator's superhero prose property has become the first acquisition of the new company, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series of short stories penned by writers based in New Mexico is set in an alternate America where an alien virus has caused people to either mutate horribly or develop superhuman powers.

Syfy Films is a joint venture between Syfy and Universal Pictures that was established in December 2010.

Martin co-created and writes the anthologies, which he also edits.

Wild Cards co-creator and writer Melinda Snodgrass is attached to pen the screenplay,

The first anthology was published in 1987.
