The Expendables 2 actor has been cast in the Eastern Promises writer's new action drama, reports Variety.
Hummingbird marks the directorial debut for Knight, who also developed the script.
Statham will play an ex-Special Forces soldier who makes a living working London's criminal underworld.
He is offered the opportunity to take on a new identity as an avenging angel and jumps at the offer.
Knight most recently worked on the script for Wrath of the Titans, and also has writing credits on Dan Brown thriller The Lost Symbol and Larklight.
IM Global has offered $20 million (£13 million) to produce the movie, which will start shooting in London early next year.
