Kinberg was a writer and producer on X-Men: The Last Stand, the third and final film in the previous incarnation of the franchise. He will take on writing duties for the follow-up to this year's prequel, according to SuperHeroHype.
It is yet to be confirmed whether director Matthew Vaughn and the principal cast will return for the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
The first movie featured James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Jason Flemyng - who played Azazel in the first film - said that the sequel is currently being written.
X-Men: First Class has earned over $350 million (£220 million) since its release in June.
