McDonagh is filming Seven Psychopaths, to be released in 2012, which stars Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell and Rourke.
However, the Iron Man 2 actor implied that he is no longer attached to the project.
Rourke told Moviefone: "The director was a jerkoff. He wanted a whole lot for nothing."
"He can go play with himself," he added.
This isn't the first time Rourke has bad-mouthed a film project. Earlier this year, he apologised for slamming his movie Passion Play with Megan Fox when he called it "terrible" and "not very good".
Rourke can be seen next in Immortals opposite Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto. The movie comes out in theatres this Friday (November 11).
