The actor told The AP that the Zack Snyder-helmed movie makes the title character easier for audiences to relate to, in the same way that the comic book giant's latest initiative has.
"When that came out, everyone went, 'Arrhhh! Everything's changed'," he said. "It's part of the evolution of the character. There is a modernisation to it, and certainly our style is making him easier to associate with because it's pretty tough to associate with an invulnerable alien."
Cavill - who will appear in the film alongside an ensemble cast that includes Amy Adams, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe - went on to say that he is mindful of fans' concerns about the project.
"There are a lot of people who have dedicated their life to loving this character. Their opinion does matter," he added. "I've done my research on the source material. I have my opinions on the various bits and bobs, but sometimes there will be a little gem out there about one of the books, and I'll say to myself, 'Yeah. That's a good point'."
Man of Steel arrives in theatres on June 14, 2013.
