In September, Brazilian director José Padhila suggested that Fassbender would be perfect for the lead role in his upcoming reboot of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi original.
The X-Men: First Class star revealed that he would not be opposed to playing the cyborg police officer.
"You know, I'm always open," Fassbender told Collider. "I'll take a look at the script and sit down with the director and have a conversation."
He explained: "It's not definitely like, 'Oh, I've got to play RoboCop before I retire'. I don't have that about anything. I don't go, 'I have to play the Dane one day, or Hamlet'. I don't really think like that.
"I just wait and see what comes up, and I'm always open to it," he concluded.
The actor went on to say that he would love to wear the signature metal suit as it would give him something to hide behind.
"It could be kind of fun," Fassbender said. "It could be kind of good to have a helmet that I could hide behind, for most of the film, too. That sounds kind of appealing."
Padhila recently explained that his reimagining of the 1987 film would fill in the gaps of the original film.
